Intermediate Guide to Abenaki Language (Online): The Four Senses
March 3 @ 6:00 pm - March 28 @ 8:00 pm
Ndakinna Education Center Abenaki Language Remote Learning Classes:
Intermediate Abenaki: The Four Senses
Our intermediate class is designed to enable the speaker to not only converse in Abenaki, but teach it to others. Each class will build directly off the material introduced in the beginner class, making it accessible to beginners who are interested in taking both levels at the same time. Our intermediate course will have a focus on additional inflections and expansions to words and phrases, with a special focus on how to teach the course materials to others. Classes will include games, songs, group activities, and lesson specific worksheets.
As in each of our monthly courses, Guide to Abenaki: Four Senses offers two levels. The first is specifically designed to welcome those with no experience to the language, while the second builds on the first for those wanting more. Both levels are open to all who register. As the title suggests, this moon’s course draws entirely on our senses as we explore the Abenaki world view with four model phrases focusing on a different sense each week. In honor of Alamikos (The Greetings Maker Moon), we will be showing gratitude to our relations with each lesson. The course also includes a passage from the Abenaki Creation Story which relates the shaping of Wjihozo’s ears, eyes, nose and mouth by Kchi Niwaskw.
This is a 4 week course taking place March 3rd-28th at 6-8 pm on Wednesdays, 10am-12pm Thursday, and a community review and game night on Sunday evenings from 6-8pm. Intermediate Students will have the chance to mentor beginner students during Sunday classes. Upon completion of the course, students will earn a Ndakinna Teaching Certification for the Abenaki Language.
