February 26 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm$75 – $100
Adult and Teen |10:00 am to 4:00 pm | $75-$100
Join wilderness expert and Ndakinna Director Jim Bruchac for a full-day of winter wilderness essentials and animal tracking. With the help of his vast collection of plaster casts, Jim will teach participants to better identify and interpret the signs left by such animals as deer, moose, coyote, rabbits, bobcat, fisher, mink, porcupine, ermine, snowshoe hare, black bears, and more. Jim will also share some of his own personal experiences with these creatures along the way.
Traveling by snowshoe (weather dependent) into the ADK foothills, participants will have the opportunity to test their new winter tracking skills, as well as learn key winter survival skills such as natural insulation, shelter building, fire-making, natural navigation, and rescue signaling.
Dress for the weather and bring a bagged lunch. Snowshoe rental available. Class to meet at Ndakinna, and then carpool to a nearby wilderness area. This class is recommended for anyone who spends a healthy amount of time in the outdoors.
